Eid ul Fitr in Pakistan
This religious festival is celebrated on 1st of Shawwal, the 10th month of Islamic Calendar. Eid-ul-Fitr starts the day after Ramadan (the Islamic holy month of fasting) ends, and is verified by the sighting of the new moon. It is a joyous occasion with important religious significance. It is a day of forgiveness, moral victory, peace of congregation, fellowship, brotherhood and unity. Muslims celebrate not only the end of fasting but also thank God for the self control and strength that Muslims believe God gave them. It is a time of giving and sharing, and many Muslims dress in holiday attire.
Eid-ul-Fitr is called "The Lesser Eid” compared to the Eid-ul-Adha is called "The Greater Eid”. On the day of the celebration, a typical Muslim family awakes very early, does the first everyday prayer, and is required to eat a little symbolizing the end of Ramadan. They then attend special congregational prayers held in mosques, large open areas, stadiums and arenas. The prayer is generally short and is followed by a sermon .Worshippers greet and embrace each other with hugs in a spirit of peace and love after the congregational prayer.After the special prayers festivities and merriment are commonly observed with visits to the homes of relatives and friends to thank God for all blessings.

Earthquake Victims Celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr

Razamir lost all of his family in Neelum Valley following the devasting earthquake. Eid-Ul-Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. For many earthquake survivors its an emotional day as they deal with the death of family members. The current death toll has been raised to over 73,000 from the devastating South Asian earthquake that happened over 3 weeks ago. Over 3 million people are still without proper shelter and aid organizations including the U.N are warning that thousands could die in remote mountainous regions as winter approaches. At least 1,400 died in Indian-Kashmir.
Nahan: More than three thousand Muslim people offered the prayer of NAMAJ at the newly constructed ground in Ramkundi for the purpose on the eve of EID UL FITAR festival on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner Padam Singh chauhan inaugurated the EIDGAH ground this morning before the NAWAJ ceremony, who ensured to provide the funds for the construction of boundary walls of the ground. There was a very courage among the Muslim community for offering the prayer at a new place. Himachal State Chief of the Muslim welfare committee Naseem Mohammed Didan said that though the ground was yet to be completed so the people of adjoining areas were advised to offer the prayer in their respective Maszids. However District president of Anjuman Islamiya said that it was a miracle that administration not only provided the land but also constructed a ground in a stipulated period.
Aamir Khan on Monday celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr in Mumbai with his family and friends.
'Well, on the occasion of Eid, I will stay with my family, my mom and the friends who are here to meet me,' the actor said.
During the holy month of Ramadan, devout Muslims stay on fast from dawn to dusk. They don't even drink water during the day.
At the end of Ramadan or month of fasting, Muslims hold a joyous three-day celebration called Eid-ul-Fitr.
Eid-ul-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month, which follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. It is a time to give charity, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy.
